I'm going to be creating lots of free lapbooks to put up on our sister site www.LapbookLessons.com

I would like to start a list of requested/suggested books or topics you'd like to see as a lapbook. I can't say that I'll be able to do them all, but it sure would help me out to know what is needed out there!

I'd like each lapbook to have a biblical aspect...this doesn't mean the book has to be about Christianianity or be straight from the bible...... I just want to be able to draw connections from the book, to the bible. (make sense?)

For example, we just did a lapbook on "I Stink" about a garbage truck, but then we drew from it the fact that God put man in charge of the earth, we are to be good stewards, and should keep care of our world.

So if you suggest a book, perhaps you could point out a biblical characteristic that could be drawn from it, or a character trait it encompasses or even a bible story that would go well with it. (Like if you do a lapbook on whales, you could touch on the story of Jonah right!)

Okay, so that said, I'm looking forward to you're responses! Please simply reply to this thread and we'll keep a running list. I'll cross them off as we go.

Right now I'm working on lapbooks for

Stone Soup (showing hospitality)
Owen's Walk (trusting God)
The Kindness Quilt (showing kindness)

Can't wait to hear what you think!

In Christ,

Valerie

Hi!

I'm brand new at lapbooking and am so excited to start them with my oldest son (he's 4). Any ideas or suggestions would be so appreciated. I really want to start working with him on basic issues for preschoolers and tie them into the bible. Where and when did you start them with your kids and what lessons did you start with?

Thanks,
Heather
Heather, the lapbooks we're doing (with my 4 year old) are the Bible ABC's. You can print them free from our sister site www.lapbooklessons.com (look for bible lapbooks) right now there is A-D available, but I hope to add more.

We're just going through them like that, becuase it works for me as well. You might start with the creation one, then the adam and eve one....ect.

If you know of some books that deal with basic issues for preschoolers you could make lapbooks surrounding those topics! Check out www.Homeschoolshare.com and you'll find a nice list of free lapbooks to get started as well there is a great one on Dinosaurs from the creation view.....this would be a great way to start with your little boy :) . Some of them are character traits, also check out www.homeschoolhelperonline.com too, but for the most part the Character / Christian values lapbooks are lacking....that's what I hope to develop and provide with everyone's help and suggestions :)

Let me know if you have any more questions, I'm glad to help!

Valerie
Marietta-

That's a great idea! I've seen that lapbook and it's amazing! We do have a bible lapbook for younger children (you can watch the video in our Videos' section) and you can print you're own version from www.LapbookLessons.com

It's geared towards younger children though :)

That's great that you create your own notebooking pages. Lapbooks are not that hard to create really. I'd suggest just starting with a book or a theme, and go from there. Think about what the important parts of the story are and how you can relay them in a fun way. If you need any specific advice on how to go about doing so, just ask.

In Christ,

Valerie
I'd love to have a lapbook on dinosaurs with the perspective of creation thrown in there. I'm currently doing some things on dinosaurs and doing a lapbook would be the perfect end to it!
Your wish has been granted Retrocutie :)

Hi, Valerie!
For the first 3 months of 2008 I´m teaching at Sunday School 13 lessons about Jesus.

I´m planning to create a Lapbook for my kids (9 t0 11 y.o) with "Lessons from Jesus":
Jesus, Master of masters - The power of the name of Jesus - Humility - Friendship - Happiness (BEATITUDES) - Praying - Forgiveness - Richness - Love one another - The love of God - Salt and Light of the word - the Good Shepard - The way to heaven.

I´ve never made a lapbook before. Do you think that 13 lessos is too much issues to an unique lapbook?
Since my students are "grown up", maybe they can create the lapbooks by their own.... it would be quite fun!
God bless you and all the other friends that contribute for this lovely site.
Sandra
WOOT! Thanks Val! You're the best! We'll be using this on Friday!
Sandra-

I think your lapbook idea is wonderful! And yes, since your children are so old, they can create most of it on their own! I don't think 13 lessons is to much (I just made a Little House on the Prairie one that is 25 different activities) You can just make a double lapbook and even a pocked (watch the video demonstrations on www.LapbookLessons.com for how to make those)

You could easily make 13 different lapbooks out of those topics, though lol.

I'd say your right on track. You could send them home with tasks and such for finding things to add to their lapbook as well. I.e. Look up verses on Forgivness......pick your favorite three, and write them in your lapbook...everyone whill have different ones, which makes it fun and interactive for the kids.

You could even have them contribute to eachothers lapbooks.....Praying section you could have each of them write a prayer request on a sheet of paper. Put all the papers in a pile and let the children pick one each. Store the prayer request in a pocket in their lapbook, and make a commitment to Pray for their classmate once a day.

Hope that gets the ball rolling on ideas for you :)

Valerie
Hi Valerie! I'd LOVE to have a lapbook on sharing. A bible story idea to go along with it could be the boy who shared his lunch by giving Jesus the five barley loaves and two fish (John 6:9), showing how God blesses when we help others...that little bit of food Jesus multiplied and fed the whole crowd with leftovers!

(Hmmmm...kind of how God has blessed your efforts to help others, Valerie....so many more people are now sharing there resources as well....all for the glory of God!)

I'm sure there's more bible stories on sharing, but that's the first one I though of. :) (By the way, I'm also working on a handwriting page for the letter B - bread, barley loaves- to go along with this story.)

Delia
Valeria,
I´d love to see lapbooks on these themes:

- Easter (Christian - no rabbits) .. :-)
- Paraboles of Jesus
- Fruit of the Spirit
- The Armour of God
- The Beatitudes
- Letters from Paul - Trips of Paul (book of Acts)
- The Heroes of Faith

Love in Christ,
Sandra
Delia-

That's a great idea. I could probably add a "Sharing" aspect to the Stone Soup book, sharing our food with others. Maybe I'll add a minibook about the little boy from John 6:9. I've already got some bible verses on sharing and hospitality in it and I think it would do good to expand it a little!

I bet your handwriting pages would go great with that lapbook, if you let me know when/where they're available at, I'll add a link to them from the Stone Soup lapbook.

Valerie
Valerie,
I am a special needs homeschool mom with two kids on the autistic spectrum. Here are things I've worked on with my children in the past that would be neat in lapbooks:

A-Z Character issues (would be great to make a supplemental worksheet or mini-book to add to your A-Z Bible lapbooks)

Horses lapbook (with lessons on controlling what we say and how we say it... using verses in James)

I'd also like to see anything you can use to teach flexibility!!! This has been an ongoing struggle for the past 3 years!
